New York-based, actor, screenwriter John Ramaine shares his insight on the COVID- 19 Pandemic and how it has affected the entertainment industry. John also shared updates on his career and goals when this pandemic is over and life returns to normal.

How has the pandemic affected your acting career and the entertainment industry?

I believe the industry has been devastated by this pandemic. Anytime something of this nature prohibits the show from going on brings a sense of despair to everyone involved; momentum ceases, careers hindered, investments are at risk, not to mention the employment crisis. Broadway will take at least a year to recover, which has affected me personally due to a particular show, which I am faintly involved. The film industry moves at a different rhythm; isolated sets, limited crew, altered budgets, and locations with a greater sense of awareness towards health can still function, as long as those involved can deal with the restrictions. You have to keep moving. People are finding out what it takes to keep working, to keep the juices flowing while preserving the momentum. Justin Ferrato, a colleague of mine, and I shot a short film during the height of the pandemic around New York City on the plight of a first responder who finds he’s the last man on earth. Dead Earth is a mediation of death to life, which we hope to complete soon. This was not a major production but a postage stamp of the times told in a cinematic narrative. Aside from Dead Earth, I also was a part of a feature film with Village Arts Lights Production, titled, Voices Behind the Veil, produced by Nancy Holaday — a sort of Edgar Lee Masters’ rendition of characters spoken through the words of the Old and New Testament. I was the role of Nebuchadnezzer.

One of the most important aspects of using this time wisely was putting together a team that will be ready to run once everything gets back to a sense of normalcy. I wisely signed with my agent, Ezme Arana, who is one of the hardest working people I know. I also signed with a manager, Anastasia Rene. Both of these people are centered on establishing my brand. In addition to having a wonderful publicist in Karen
